At Edge of the Woods we strive to reduce the carbon footprint of your landscape, and of our services. Here are a few highlights from our landscaping philosophy:

  • We will look for ways to help you reduce the size of your lawn. Enlarge planting beds or installing meadow areas will reduce the fossil fuel consumption used by mowing and turf fertilizers.
  • We use hand tools rather than power tools when practical to reduce consumption of fossil fuels.
  • We choose low energy paving materials such as gravel or woods chips. Used brick and recycled materials are great when available.
  • Planting with native species provides important food and habitat for birds, insects and other wildlife. Woody plants capture more carbon than herbaceous plants.
  • Appropriate placement of trees and shrubs can help reduce heating and cooling costs.
  • We use minimal fertilizers and pesticides. An all natural herbicide is available for use on your property, please inquire.
  • We encourage planting a diversity of species to aid in insect and pest control.
